Sometimes the way to change the world, even just our own little piece of the world, is to do things that are outside the expected, to stir up a little trouble. Georgia Congressman John Lewis famously said that meeting Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “inspired me to stand up, to speak up, and speak out. And I got in the way, I got in trouble — good trouble, necessary trouble.”
In this week’s scripture, Jesus healed a man who had been sick for 38 years — and he got into “good trouble” with the Jewish leaders when he did. This Sunday, we will take a look at the miracle itself, and at the extreme negative reaction Jesus got for daring to break Sabbath laws by healing someone. How might this story guide us in our faith journey as a congregation today? See you Sunday, in person or online.
